Carpet and flooring in Waterways
Waterways is one of Melbourne’s newer suburbs: building on the estate began in 2000, and it became a suburb in its own right in 2002. Its homes sit around landscaped wetlands beside Mordialloc Creek and Braeside Park, about 16 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom.
Most houses here are now more than 15 years old, so plenty of them are due for new carpet.
Replacing the builder’s original carpet
Carpet laid when a house is built is often chosen by the builder to a price. When it’s time to replace it, you can choose for your own household:
- Upgrade the fibre: solution-dyed nylon ($43.50/m² mid-range) for hard wear, triexta (about $68.30/m²) for softness and stain resistance, or wool ($68.30/m²) for a natural feel.
- Upgrade the underlay: new 10mm underlay ($6–$10/m²) makes even a mid-range carpet feel noticeably better.
- Rethink the living areas: many owners swap a carpeted family room for hybrid, which is easier to clean.
We take up and dispose of the old carpet for about $8/m². Our wool vs nylon guide helps you compare fibres.

Waterways flooring questions
How much does it cost to recarpet a three-bedroom house?
It depends on the carpet and the layout. Our carpet price guide works through a three-bedroom example, and the instant price guide gives a rough figure for your own rooms.
Can I keep my old underlay?
We lay new underlay with every carpet installation. Old underlay compresses over time, and new carpet on worn underlay won’t feel or wear as it should.
How do I choose between triexta and nylon?
Both are hard-wearing synthetics. Solution-dyed nylon is very resilient and colourfast; triexta is softer to the touch, with built-in stain resistance. Feel both at the measure.
