Carpet and flooring in Dingley Village
Dingley Village is a quiet, mostly residential suburb on the edge of Kingston’s green wedge, about 9 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. Most of its homes were built from the 1970s onwards, many of them brick family houses on courts and crescents, with plenty of parkland nearby.
Plenty of these homes are now due for new floors, from the carpet in the bedrooms to the kitchen and family room.
Updating a 70s or 80s family home
Homes from this era often have carpet over a concrete slab, or over sheet flooring on a timber frame. Both take new carpet well. For hard floors:
- Over a slab: hybrid floats on its attached underlay, or engineered timber can be glued straight down ($35/m² direct-stick installation plus $15/m² adhesive).
- Over sheet flooring: the floor needs to be flat and firm. We check it at the measure and quote any preparation.
- Sunken lounges and steps between rooms need nosings and trims, which we work out at the measure.
The hard flooring guide covers subfloors and preparation in more detail.

Dingley Village flooring FAQs
Can you carpet a sunken lounge or a step between rooms?
Yes. Steps between rooms are carpeted like a short staircase, with the carpet wrapped over the edge. We measure them at the same time as the rooms.
What thickness of hybrid should I choose?
All three Resiplank planks have the underlay attached. The 9.7mm ($65/m²) has the heaviest wear layer and the best acoustic rating; the 7mm ($45/m²) and 8.5mm ($55/m²) suit most rooms. Thicker planks feel more solid underfoot, so compare the samples at home.
Do you restretch carpet?
Yes, from $450 including GST. If carpet has rippled or come loose we can restretch it, but if it’s more than about 15 years old we’ll usually recommend replacing it. We don’t patch or repair carpet.
