Carpet and flooring in Fitzroy
Fitzroy, Melbourne’s first suburb, runs from Alexandra Parade down to Victoria Parade around Brunswick and Gertrude streets, about 21 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. Victorian terraces, converted factories and new apartments sit among its cafés, bars and galleries.
It’s a suburb where people aren’t afraid of colour, and floors can join in.
Colour and pattern underfoot
- Designer and patterned wool (about $123/m²) makes a statement in a hallway, on stairs or in a bedroom. Installation is quoted at the measure, because the pattern has to line up across joins and steps.
- Coloured carpet in a deep green, rust or blue works best in rooms where furniture and walls stay neutral.
- Herringbone timber brings pattern without colour, from $89/m² in oak.
- Venues and shops: commercial carpet tiles can mix colours to create stripes or zones.

Frequently asked questions
Does patterned carpet need more carpet?
Usually, yes. Lining the pattern up across joins and steps uses extra length, which we work out at the measure.
Will bold colours date?
Strong colours are a personal choice. If you’re unsure, put colour in a room you’d happily change, such as a study or a stair runner, and keep the main areas neutral.
Can you lay a patterned stair runner?
Yes. We install runners on timber stairs; overlocking the edges is an extra charge, and patterned runners are quoted at the measure.
Why CarpetAce
We’re not like other flooring stores. In many stores the person who measures and quotes never lays a floor, and the job is handed to an installer on a work order. Tony Chalhoub, a carpet installer for more than 20 years, founded CarpetAce in 2010 so that every job is measured and quoted by people who know how to install it.
We’re family-owned, with more than 40 years in flooring, and rated 5.0 from more than 300 Google reviews.
