Berwick Carpet & Flooring

Flooring for Berwick homes

Berwick keeps a village feel, with its High Street shops, large old trees, the avenue of poplars at its eastern entrance and Ye Berwick Inn, first licensed in 1857. It’s about 28 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom, in the City of Casey. Wilson Botanic Park sits in an old quarry, and much of the suburb’s housing has been built since it began to grow quickly in the 1970s.

Many larger homes here are built around a feature staircase, and it deserves as much thought as the rooms.

Feature and curved staircases

  • Curved stairs and winders: every step is a different shape, so each one is measured and cut individually. That takes more time and more material than a straight flight, so curved stairs are quoted at the measure.
  • Carpet wraps each tread and riser for a soft, quiet finish. A dense wool or solution-dyed nylon holds up best on the nosings, where every footstep lands.
  • Runners leave timber treads showing at the sides, with the edges overlocked if you like, at an extra charge.
  • Hybrid and engineered timber stairs use a nosing on each tread edge. A straight 16-step flight is $1,600 to install, plus the flooring.
  • Patterned carpet and herringbone on stairs are quoted on request, because the pattern has to line up on every step.

Compare the two looks in carpet vs timber stairs.

Questions about flooring in Berwick

Can carpet go on open-riser stairs?

Yes. Carpet can wrap each tread on its own, leaving the gaps between steps open, or a runner can sit on top of timber treads.

Should the stairs match the upstairs carpet?

Usually. The same carpet on the stairs and landing makes the upper floor feel continuous.

Do you lay floors in larger Berwick homes?

Yes: wool carpet, engineered oak and Australian species, hybrid and herringbone, with a free measure and a written quote within 24 hours.

Why CarpetAce

We’re not like other flooring stores. In many stores the person who measures and quotes never lays a floor, and the job is handed to an installer on a work order. Tony Chalhoub, a carpet installer for more than 20 years, founded CarpetAce in 2010 so that every job is measured and quoted by people who know how to install it.

We’re family-owned, with more than 40 years in flooring, and rated 5.0 from more than 300 Google reviews.
