Carpet and flooring in Beaconsfield
Beaconsfield sits on Cardinia Creek immediately east of Berwick, partly in Cardinia Shire and partly in the City of Casey. It’s about 31 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. It began as “Little Berwick” around Bowman’s Inn, a coach stop on the Gippsland road, took its name from Disraeli when the station opened in 1881, and has since grown from a town of holiday homes into new housing and farmlets, with parkland along the creek.
Carpet comes with its own vocabulary, and knowing a few terms makes comparing samples much easier.
Carpet terms, explained
- Pile: the yarn that stands up from the backing. Cut pile is soft; loop pile is hard-wearing.
- Twist: how tightly the yarn is twisted. A tighter twist holds its shape and hides footprints.
- Weight: the amount of yarn, usually given in ounces. It also sets the installation price: $11, $12.30 or $13.60/m².
- Density: how closely the yarn is packed. Dense carpet wears better than a long, loose pile.
- Solution-dyed: coloured right through the fibre, so it resists fading and stains.
- Drop, join and fill: a drop is a length cut from the roll; rooms wider than the roll need a join and a fill piece.

Beaconsfield flooring FAQs
What does “face weight” mean on a label?
It’s the weight of the yarn above the backing. More yarn usually means a denser carpet, but density and fibre matter too.
What is a gripper strip?
A timber strip with angled pins, fixed around the room’s edge, that holds stretched carpet tight.
Can you explain the samples at the measure?
Yes. We bring the samples to your home and talk you through how each one will wear in your rooms.
