Ducted heating vents in the floor
- Carpet: we cut the carpet and underlay neatly around each vent, and the vent cover sits back in place.
- Hybrid, timber and vinyl plank are cut around the vent opening, and the cover sits on top of the new floor.
- Thicker floors: if the new floor is higher than the old one, some vent covers may need a different frame. Tell us at the measure.
- Moving a vent, or anything inside the ducting, is a job for your heating technician, before the new floor goes down.
- Furniture: keep vents clear of heavy furniture and rugs so the warm air can circulate.

Do I need new vent covers?
Usually not; the existing covers go back. If one is damaged or doesn’t suit the new floor height, your heating technician can supply a replacement.
Should the heating be off on installation day?
Yes, it’s best to have the heating off while we work, so the vents are cool and dust isn’t blown around.
Can carpet go right up to a floor vent?
Yes. The carpet is cut to the opening and the vent cover sits back over the edge for a neat finish.
