Airlay's residential carpet underlays come in six grades, so the cushion beneath your carpet can be matched to the room and the carpet rather than chosen by default. They range from Comfort at 8mm and 75kg density, through Ultra (9mm, 100kg), Luxury (10mm, 90kg), Deluxe (10mm, 120kg) and Supreme (10mm, 150kg), to Special Gold at 11mm and 120kg. Thickness affects how soft the carpet feels, while density relates to how firmly the underlay supports it over time, so a denser grade is worth considering for stairs, hallways and family rooms. Airlay lists the foam as made with 90% post-industrial recycled content. Rolls are 1.8m wide, in lengths of 20m, 15m or 10m depending on the grade. The range also includes Timber Underlay, a 2.5mm underlay on 50m x 1m rolls which, as the name suggests, is meant for timber-style floors rather than carpet. We recommend an underlay with your carpet and name it in your written quote, and we can bring samples of both to your home.

Residential Carpet Underlay FAQs
Which underlay grade should I choose?
It depends on the carpet, the room and the traffic. Busy areas such as stairs and hallways benefit from a denser grade like Deluxe or Supreme, while bedrooms can suit a softer one. We'll recommend a grade and name it in your written quote.
What's the difference between thickness and density?
Thickness is how deep the underlay is, which affects how soft the carpet feels. Density is how much material is packed in, which affects how well it supports the carpet over time.
Is Timber Underlay for carpet?
As the name suggests, the 2.5mm Timber Underlay is intended for timber-style floors rather than carpet. We'll confirm whether it suits your floor before quoting.
