Flooring for homes in The Basin
The Basin sits on the western edge of the Dandenong Ranges National Park in the City of Knox, close to Boronia and Ferntree Gully. It’s about 25 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. Its homes sit on the elevated south-western slopes, with tributaries of Dandenong Creek running through and the Doongalla Forest Reserve on the north-east side.

Engineered timber or hybrid?
- Engineered timber has a real timber surface on a stable core: oak from $89/m², Australian species about $130/m². It brings the warmth and grain of real wood, and each board is different.
- Hybrid (Terra Mater Resiplank, $45, $55 or $65/m² for 7mm, 8.5mm or 9.7mm) has a printed timber look over a rigid core. It resists water and scratches well, which suits busy homes, kitchens and laundries.
- Both install at $28/m² floating, so the difference is mostly in the flooring itself.
- Mixing them works: timber in the living room, hybrid in the kitchen and laundry, with a neat trim where they meet.

Does hybrid look like real timber?
From standing height, a good hybrid looks very close. Up close, real timber has more depth and variation, so it’s worth comparing both samples side by side.
Which copes better with dogs?
Hybrid. Its wear layer resists scratches from claws better than most timber finishes, and it wipes clean after muddy paws.
Can either be laid over a timber subfloor?
Yes. Both float on underlay over a sound, flat subfloor. We check the floor at the measure and quote any preparation.
