Flooring in Knoxfield
Knoxfield sits between Scoresby, Ferntree Gully and Wantirna South in the City of Knox, about 16 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. Family homes from the 1970s and 80s make up most of its streets, alongside a light industrial area and newer housing developments.

Laminate, vinyl plank or hybrid?
- Laminate (about $40/m²) has a wood-fibre core under a hard-wearing printed surface. It’s firm underfoot and suits dry rooms such as bedrooms, studies and living rooms.
- 5mm vinyl plank (about $45/m²) is made of vinyl, so it’s comfortable to stand on and copes with splashes. It needs a flat floor and suits rooms with tight door clearances.
- Hybrid ($45–$65/m²) combines a rigid core with a vinyl surface and an attached underlay. It bridges small dips in the floor better and resists water, which makes it the all-rounder for kitchens, laundries and living areas.

Frequently asked questions
Which of the three is quietest?
Hybrid, thanks to its attached underlay; laminate can sound harder underfoot. In an upstairs room, carpet is quieter than any of them.
Can laminate go in a kitchen?
It can, but laminate doesn’t like standing water, so spills need wiping up straight away. Hybrid is the safer choice for kitchens and laundries.
Can these floors go over old carpet?
No. The old carpet and underlay come up first (about $8/m² to take up and dispose of), and the floor underneath is checked and prepared.
