Upper Ferntree Gully is the eastern end of the Ferntree Gully area, in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, split between the City of Knox and the Shire of Yarra Ranges. It’s about 21 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. - We check the floor first. At the measure we look for soft spots, bounce and slopes, because a new floor is only as good as what’s under it.
- Carpet is the most forgiving: underlay and stretched carpet ride over small variations in old boards.
- Hybrid and engineered timber float on underlay, but they need a firm, reasonably flat base. Loose or uneven boards may need levelling first, which we quote at the measure.
- Structural problems such as sagging joists or failing stumps are for a builder or restumper before any new floor goes down.

Frequently asked questions
My floor creaks. Will new carpet fix it?
No. Creaks come from the boards or joists moving, and carpet only muffles them. If the subfloor needs work, a carpenter should fix it before the new floor goes in.
Can hybrid go over old timber boards?
Yes, if the boards are sound and reasonably flat. Hybrid floats on its attached underlay, so it isn’t nailed or glued to the old floor.
Can you get materials up a steep driveway or path?
Yes. Access is part of the measure, and we plan how carpet rolls and boxes of flooring get to the house.
