Carpet and flooring in Preston
Preston lies about 9 km north-east of the CBD, between the Merri and Darebin creeks, with High Street and Preston Market at its heart and Northland to the east. It’s about 26 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. It grew fastest after the trams arrived in 1920, from the brick bungalows of the early War Service Homes estate to the Housing Commission homes of East Preston. We also cover Preston Lower, Preston South and Preston West.
We’ve worked here before: see photos from a Preston project.
Solution-dyed nylon, explained
- What it means: the colour is mixed into the nylon before the fibre is made, so each strand is coloured right through, like a carrot rather than a radish.
- Why it matters: it holds its colour in sunny rooms and resists stains, because there’s no pale core to show through.
- Toughness: nylon is the most resilient synthetic fibre, so it springs back in hallways, on stairs and in family rooms.
- Prices: mid-range $43.50/m² and high-end $68.30/m², supply only.

Frequently asked questions
Is solution-dyed nylon the same as polypropylene?
No. Both are solution-dyed, but nylon is more resilient, so it recovers better from foot traffic and furniture.
Does solution-dyed nylon feel soft?
It can. Softness depends on the yarn and pile, so we bring several ranges to compare at the measure.
Can it go on stairs?
Yes. Its resilience makes it a good stair carpet; installation is about $600 for an average staircase, plus carpet and underlay.
