Carpet Restretching
Carpet restretching by CarpetAce, from $450 (inc GST). We pull loose, rippled and wrinkled carpet tight and flat again, for homes and commercial spaces across Melbourne.
Every job is carried out by our experienced team, backed by more than 40 years in the carpet and flooring trade.
What Is Carpet Restretching?
Over time, carpet can loosen and form ripples, wrinkles or bubbles. Restretching pulls the carpet tight again with a power stretcher and re-secures it to the gripper strips around the edges of the room, so it lies flat and smooth.
Signs Your Carpet Needs Restretching
- Ripples or waves across the room or along hallways
- Wrinkles that come back after you flatten them
- Carpet that feels loose or moves underfoot
- Edges lifting at walls or doorways
Why Does Carpet Ripple?
Ripples usually appear when carpet was not stretched tightly enough when it was laid, when the underlay breaks down, or after heavy furniture is dragged across it. Left alone, ripples are a trip hazard and the raised areas wear faster.
Carpet Stretching for Wrinkles, Ripples and Loose Carpet
Whether you call it carpet stretching, carpet wrinkle repair or fixing loose carpet, the job is the same: restretching. We restretch carpet in bedrooms, living areas and hallways, and in offices, shops and other commercial spaces where rippled carpet is a trip hazard.
Restretch or Replace?
If your carpet is in good condition apart from the ripples, restretching is usually worthwhile. If your carpet is over 15 years old, we advise replacing it rather than restretching it. The same applies if it is worn or matted throughout. At a free measure we’ll tell you honestly which makes sense, and quote both if it helps you decide. Browse our carpet range.
What We Don’t Do
We only restretch carpet. We don’t patch carpet, repair burns or stains, or repair other types of flooring.
Pricing
Carpet restretching starts from $450 (inc GST). The final price depends on the size of the area, furniture and access, and we confirm it before any work starts.

FAQs
What is carpet restretching?
Restretching pulls loose or rippled carpet tight again and re-secures it around the edges of the room, so it lies flat and smooth.
How much does carpet restretching cost?
Carpet restretching starts from $450 (inc GST). We confirm the price before any work starts.
Can restretching fix worn or damaged carpet?
No. Restretching removes ripples and loose areas, but it cannot fix worn, matted or damaged carpet. If the carpet is worn throughout, replacing it is usually better value.
Is my carpet too old to restretch?
If your carpet is over 15 years old, we advise replacing it rather than restretching it. We check the age and condition of your carpet at the free measure.
Do you patch carpet or repair burns and stains?
No. We only restretch carpet. We do not patch carpet, repair burns or stains, or repair other types of flooring.
Where is CarpetAce based?
Our showroom is at 52 Hargreaves St, Huntingdale (by appointment), and we service homes and businesses across Melbourne.
Why does carpet ripple?
Ripples usually appear when carpet was not stretched tightly enough when it was laid, when the underlay breaks down, or after heavy furniture is dragged across it.
What happens if I leave rippled carpet?
Ripples are a trip hazard, and the raised areas wear faster than the rest of the carpet. They rarely flatten out on their own.
Do you restretch carpet in commercial properties?
Yes. We restretch carpet in offices, retail and other commercial spaces as well as homes.
Do you also supply and install new carpet?
Yes. We supply and install carpet, carpet tiles, hybrid, vinyl and timber flooring across Melbourne.
