Cranbourne West Carpet & Flooring

Carpet and flooring in Cranbourne West

Cranbourne West runs from the railway and Monahans Road west to the Western Port Highway, with Thompsons Road to the north and Ranfurlie golf club to the south, in the City of Casey. It’s about 32 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. The area between Evans and Monahans Roads was built up in the 1990s, and newer estates followed the 2010 Cranbourne West plan.

Most homes here are built on a concrete slab, and a new slab needs checking before a new floor goes down.

New homes on concrete slabs

  • Moisture first: moisture is the biggest risk over concrete. A new slab can take a long time to dry, so we check it before any timber or hard floor goes down.
  • Floating floors such as hybrid and engineered timber go over a moisture barrier where the slab calls for one.
  • Glued timber needs a dry, flat slab, so the timing depends on how the slab has dried.
  • Carpet goes down on gripper strips and underlay, and it warms up a slab floor considerably.
  • Humps and dips: hard floors need a flatter surface than carpet, so any levelling is quoted at the measure.

Frequently asked questions

How soon after handover can floors go in?

It depends on the slab and the floor. Carpet can usually go in straight away; for timber and hard floors, we check the slab’s moisture first.

Is carpet warmer than hybrid on a slab?

Yes. Carpet over 10mm underlay feels noticeably warmer than a hard floor on concrete, especially in winter.

Can you replace the builder’s carpet?

Yes. We take up the old carpet and underlay for about $8/m² and lay the new carpet the same day.
