Brunswick West Carpet & Flooring

Carpet and flooring in Brunswick West

Brunswick West runs from central Brunswick to the Moonee Ponds Creek, with Royal Park on its southern edge, the Grantham Street shops and Union Square, and small strips along the Melville Road tram. It’s about 27 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom. Its early homes were mostly Californian bungalows, followed by post-war cream-brick houses and flats in the Moonee Vale area. We also cover Moonee Vale and Brunswick South.

When a hard floor goes in, the edges are the detail people notice last but see every day.

Skirting or scotia? Edge finishes for hard floors

Hybrid, engineered timber, vinyl plank and laminate all need a small gap at the walls. There are two ways to finish it:

  • Skirting removed and refitted ($20/m² of floor): the skirting comes off, the floor goes under it and the skirting goes back on, so the gap is hidden and there’s no extra moulding. We don’t paint, so your painter touches up the skirting afterwards.
  • Scotia or quad beading ($10/m² of floor): a small moulding fixed along the bottom of the skirting covers the gap. It’s quicker, but the moulding is visible.
  • Not sure? Choose “decide at the measure” in the price guide, and we’ll look at your skirting before you choose.

Carpet doesn’t need either: it’s fitted on gripper strips right to the skirting. See the edge options in our instant price guide.

Questions about flooring in Brunswick West

Which edge finish looks best?

Removing and refitting the skirting gives the cleanest result, because nothing is added to the wall. Scotia suits rooms where the skirting is fragile, very old or hard to remove.

Can old skirting always be refitted?

Usually. Very old or brittle skirting can split when it comes off, so we check it at the measure and suggest scotia if it’s too risky.

Does carpet in the bedrooms need any edge work?

No. Carpet is tucked against the skirting over gripper strips, so there’s no gap to cover.

Why CarpetAce

We’re not like other flooring stores. In many stores the person who measures and quotes never lays a floor, and the job is handed to an installer on a work order. Tony Chalhoub, a carpet installer for more than 20 years, founded CarpetAce in 2010 so that every job is measured and quoted by people who know how to install it.

We’re family-owned, with more than 40 years in flooring, and rated 5.0 from more than 300 Google reviews.
