Carpet and flooring in Lynbrook
Lynbrook began as a planned estate of about 2,750 homes, carved out of Lyndhurst, with building starting in 1994. It sits between the Cranbourne line and the South Gippsland Highway, about 25 km by road from our Huntingdale showroom, with Lynbrook Village shopping centre (2007), its own station (2012) and a wetland reserve along its western edge.
Many of its homes are now two or three decades old, and the original floors are due for a change.
Vinyl plank: 3mm or 5mm?
- 5mm vinyl plank (about $45/m², installed at $28/m² with underlay or adhesive included) is our usual recommendation for homes.
- 3mm vinyl plank: we also supply 3mm vinyl planks, but for most homes we recommend 5mm: a thicker plank feels more solid underfoot and is more forgiving of small imperfections in the floor underneath.
- Wet areas: vinyl plank suits laundries and powder rooms. In a bathroom with a shower or bath it can be laid, but we don’t recommend it, because water can get through the joins and edges to the subfloor.
- Hybrid ($45–$65/m²) is thicker again, with a rigid core and attached underlay.

Questions about flooring in Lynbrook
What’s the difference between vinyl plank and hybrid?
Both are plank floors that resist water. Hybrid has a rigid core with underlay attached, so it feels firmer; 5mm vinyl plank is thinner and is laid with underlay or adhesive.
Can vinyl plank go over my old floor?
It depends on what’s there. Old carpet always comes up first; over tiles or an existing hard floor, we check the surface at the measure and quote any preparation.
Is vinyl plank good for kids’ rooms?
It’s practical and easy to wipe, but many families still prefer carpet in the bedrooms for warmth and softness, with vinyl plank or hybrid in the living areas.
